HEALTH & Temperament TESTING
A happy long life with your pet starts with a diligent breeder
-
Hip and Elbow Scoring
All of our breeding dogs are hip and elbow scored under the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia (GSDCA) scheme. This program ensures that only dogs with sound joints are used in breeding, reducing the risk of hereditary hip and elbow dysplasia. By following this scheme, we help protect the long-term health, soundness, and working ability of the German Shepherd.
-
GENETIC TESTING
All of our breeding dogs undergo Orivet breed-specific genetic testing for German Shepherd Dogs. This screening identifies hereditary conditions known to occur within the breed, such as degenerative myelopathy (DM) and haemophilia, ensuring we make informed breeding decisions. By using Orivet’s testing panel, we can give our puppies the best possible genetic foundation for a healthy future.

Character assessment
In Australia, the ZAP (Zuchttauglichkeitsprüfung) Character Assessment is run under the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia (GSDCA) as part of its breed improvement scheme. This assessment is carried out on young German Shepherds to evaluate their character, confidence, and stability in everyday situations.
The test includes exposure to unfamiliar people, surfaces, noises, and play-based exercises. It provides breeders and owners with valuable insight into each dog’s natural responses and temperament.
At Vintani, we participate in the ZAP program to ensure that our breeding dogs display the sound, reliable temperamentthat makes the German Shepherd such a trusted working dog and family companion.
